SOZ is internet slang for Sorry.
As you can see, SOZ isn't an acronym. It's actually just a slang word. And since this isn't a slang word you often hear spoken out loud in everyday conversation, it probably looks extra strange to most people.
How SOZ Is Used
SOZ can be used anytime a person feels the need to apologize for some kind of mistake they made. Since it's such an informal way of saying sorry, it's best reserved for casual apologies involving minor mistakes rather than major ones.
The casual nature of SOZ also makes it useful for apologizing in a sarcastic manner. Someone might use SOZ for a humorous effect in any situation that shouldn't typically require an apology.
Examples of SOZ in Use
Example 1
Friend #1: "Hey why didn't you show up at the library? I waited for over an hour!"Friend #2: "Soz."
In this first example, SOZ is used as a standalone response. Friend #2 has nothing more to say to Friend #1 other than this one slang word as a way to acknowledge and apologize for their mistake.
Example 2
Friend #1: "How was your trip?"Friend #2: "It was a lot of fun but was so soz I didn't even think to bring bug spray."
This second example shows a different way SOZ can be used by inserting it into a sentence. Friend #2 decides to use it to describe the regret they felt about a decision they didn't make.
Example 3
Friend #1: "You could've been a lot nicer and friendlier yesterday meeting my new bf."Friend #2: "Well soz I'm not perfect..."
In this final example, you can see how SOZ can be used sarcastically. Friend #2 uses SOZ to apologize for something that typically shouldn't require an apology (being imperfect).
Slang Terms Similar to SOZ
SOZ isn't exactly one of the easiest slang words to interpret and there are many other variations that might be better choices. These include:
SRY: An abbreviation for sorry. This one is a lot easier to interpret than SOZ just by looking at it.
SOWEE: A different slang word for sorry that replaces the "R" sound with a "W" sound to create an innocent, childlike tone. It's still much easier to interpret than SOZ is.
SOWY: Just another way to write SOWEE. Still sounds the same and again is quite easy to interpret.
SNS: Sorry Not Sorry. This phrase is often used when an apology would be the socially acceptable way to respond to someone, but in actuality, the apologizer is not genuinely sorry at all.
SLR: Sorry Late Reply. This phrase is used to apologize for taking a longer than necessary to reply to a text, a chat, a private message, an online comment or some other form of communication that requires a response.

Enjoy the Soz- The Oath very much. I figured out that the longer it’s watched the better it gets which is why there are over 100 episodes. I’ve watched other Turkish soap operas (I call it this because its very humorous and it’s mostly non fiction story.) and appreciate how much of their culture is being expressed. The emotional seriousness of Turkish movies is why I like to watch them. Unlike American movies, Turkish movies express extreme loyalty and compassion for others and the country they serve Turkey. They value all ethnic backgrounds. Their respect for each other is expressed with overwhelming seriousness and emotions. Turkish movies are respectful, value oriented and moral. Their movies are not as offensive and abrasive as most American movies which is why I enjoy them so much. Thank you for putting this movie on YouTube with English subtitles making it stress free and enjoyable experience to watch.

The word soz can be used in many different circumstances to express an apology to someone. This is most commonly used on social media or via text message. In the first example below, Anika is talking to Kit about their homework for the night via instant messenger. Anika: Do you know what we have to do for English tonight? I missed class. I was in the nurse’s office because my insulin was low. Kit: Ah, soz, I don’t! I got to school late this morning. My mum’s car wouldn’t start. Anika: Oh no! No worries, I’m sure Katie wrote it down. I’ll let you know what she says. Kit: Thanks! Here, Kit uses the phrase soz to say that she is sorry that she doesn’t know what their English homework for the night is. In this next example, Anika and Kit will use the word soz when planning a fun girls night. Kit: Do you think your mom would let us all sleep in your basement? Anika: Ugh, soz, the basement flooded and it’s super gross down there. We probably shouldn’t use it. Kit: No problem! I’m sure my mom would let us use our attic. With many different internet slang terms, it is nearly impossible to know exactly where they came from or who said it first. Similarly to the abbreviations OMG, LOL, or BRB, we know that they came into popularity as abbreviated ways to say words and phrases, but we do not know exactly who invented it or said it first. However, since this term is so popular in the UK, we can infer that it was probably birthed on social media or in text messages in the United Kingdom somewhere. Is the internet slang soz casual or formal? The abbreviation soz is a very informal way to say sorry. It is considered a slang term and is therefore only appropriate to use in casual situations, like via a text message with friends or family. It is not appropriate to use the word soz in more formal settings, like business emails, negotiations, letters, or other scenarios in which it is best to be professional. Below is an example of a situation in which it would be very inappropriate to use the term soz, followed by a revised version of the same message. I wuz rushing out of there n I must’ve 4gotten I’m so so sry!! It won’t happen again. -Rebecca GOOD: Hi Emily, Please let me offer my profuse apologies. I was hurrying home and in my rush, I forgot to pull the keys out of the door. This will not happen again. I am incredibly sorry for the potential damage this could have caused. Best, Rebecca In such a serious situation, Rebecca should maintain proper email etiquette and use professional language to show Emily, her boss, that she understands the severity of the situation. What are synonyms for the word soz? There are many different ways one can let someone know that they are sorry. If one wished to use a phrase that was more formal than the term soz, they could use a synonym. A synonym is a word or phrase that means the same thing as another word or phrase.
